New research: differences in brain activity for tics and voluntary movements

Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, we have been able to examine the brain activity prior to tics and voluntary movements in TS using electroencephalography (EEG). We found that the brain activity we see when individuals with TS execute a voluntary movement is not reliably observed before the execution of tics. We interpret this as reflecting a greater involvement of a network of brain areas in tic execution. You can read more about this research in our published paper:
